The Overseers

The mythical wizard overlords that ruled the world before the shattering. Believed by most to have left the people of the world behind to fend for themselves after some sort of epic transgression. The fact that no one who survived the apocalypse remembered much of anything from before has caused the belief that the Overseers took the people's memory to prevent them from transgressing again.
